2 Promenade du Bout du Monde, 49100 Angers, France
The castle itself makes a big impression when walking around it. The gardens in the moat are beautiful and continue inside. To enter you have to pay 9 Euros per adult and 7 reduced. Children under 18 are free. Inside is a small historic museum and the 650 year old tapestries of the apocalypse which are quite impressive.
What a fantastic chateau. The suggested time is 1hr 30, but we must have been in there for 4 hours. When visiting it's a must to hire the guide phones, particularly when looking at the tapestry as it explains each smaller panel - and what a fantastic tapestry, in my view it surpasses the Bayeux tapestry. Well worth taking a picnic in with you, and taking time to relax on the sun chairs available. We didn't leave enough time to look properly around Angers itself, but will be going back as it is a really historic city with cobbled streets and lots of small independent shops. A great day out, or a weekend if you have time.
Must have been such a powerful castle in its time. The Revelation tapestry is amazing. The guide really knew his stuff. The tapestry is so large that the guided tour (in French - electonic guides in English and other languages available) is rather demanding, but worth the effort.
Very impressive castle in means of restoration and size. Large walls and a nice garden, also some old parts to see from the early days. The tapestry museum is also worth the visit.
An excellent example of a defensive castle, as opposed to a fancy house. The apocalypse tapestry was amazing. Walking around the wall is fun for those up to a climb. The warrior saints exhibit inside was great to walk through. Parking was nearby, but filled up fast.
