Hoogstraat 110, 3011 PV Rotterdam, Netherlands
Interesting building with great study spaces in a great location. But the experience of the building and its facilities is badly diminished by the lack of washroom facilities and by the €2,50 cost of the internet. Washrooms are not free, and there are only 2. During my visit, one of the washroom coin entry machines was broken, so it was closed, rather than granted free, meaning there were only a few toilets on one floor for the entire 6-floor building. Public libraries around the world are free and open to all – not just to residents. A day of studying here will cost as much as your lunch.
I highly recommend the place for studying specifically and it is known for that. You can snack a little bit but make sure you keep the place clean. There are also small scale gaming events there on the 2nd floor every Friday if you want to have some fun or just to try out the console and games.
I like the library, but I think its ridiculous that you have to pay for the internet and the toilet at the biggest library of Rotterdam, or to be honest in any library anywhere in the Netherlands. The internet in much lower developed countries is free at the libraries. If you turn your wifi scanner on, you will see dozens of mobile hotspot internet users, using their phone data bundle. I guess that tells a lot.
Nice, coloured and relaxing place where the books are only one of many many different proposals and concret ways to convince you to engage your time and improve your life...
Nice place to study. Toilets cost tough, which for sure is a shame if you study there the whole day.
