Switzerland in a nutshell

Why is Switzerland so popular to visit?

Switzerland is not a cheap destination, by any means, but it’s certainly spectacular. Over 60% of the country is covered in mountains, so it’s no surprise that tourist go to see the impressive mountain views and partake in mountain activities like hiking and skiing. Switzerland is also world-famous for its delectable cheese and chocolate as well as for its watches. Switzerland is an incredibly travel-friendly country because public transportation is always on time, so getting from one Swiss city to the next is almost always stress-free. Switzerland is a particularly unique European country because of its cultural diversity. In fact, you may feel as though you are not in Switzerland because of the country's four official languages, which are all very distinct from one another.

Things to do in Switzerland

For the outdoorsy people, head to Zermatt to experience the country’s world-renowned hiking and skiing and observe the famous Matterhorn, a mountain known for its symmetric pyramid shape. Take the Glacier Express for a breathtaking (and timely) journey through the mountains. Enjoy fresh fish from Lake Geneva. Go to Gruyeres (yes, like the cheese) for a cheese-tasting and a visit to the town’s castle. Ticino is Switzerland’s Italian speaking region and home to the Bellinzona Castles and Verzasca Valley, an ideal spot for taking a dip. Get your adventure on in Interlaken where you can go skydiving, hang-gliding and more. Take a boat cruise and discover the beauty of Lake Lucerne. Of course, Zurich is a must-see city in Switzerland that boasts numerous museums and art galleries.

What is the best time of year to visit Iceland?

If you plan on skiing, the best time to visit is from December to March. Other than those few months, the best time to visit Switzerland and enjoy all that it has to offer is during the summer, from June to August. However, there are various festival and holiday celebrations held throughout the year. Autumn and spring are typically a bit slower so accommodations won’t be nearly as full and prices will be more reasonable.
