Excellent show. I don't know how the dervishes can keep their spin going for so long. I was getting dizzy (mesmerized?) just watching them. The musicians were amazing. Impeccable timing and precision on very intricate rhythms. The theater was a bit hard to find. It's not marked on street level. You have to go down some steps, walk along a long walkway to find the entrance. There seemed to be a lot of locals making themselves available to show you the way, so keep your baksheesh handy.
The Tanoura show is NOT here right now, it's in the Wekalet El Ghoury Arts Center! They will try to scam you, show you the other place for money. One of the guys in the building tried to take us to the attic to "show us the dervish dance". It may sound funny as I write this but it was a scarry experience. Don't go here. To get to the Arts center go right from the entrance than you have to go down on stairs on the street and then after some doors on the right to a bigger door, there you will see the posters about the dance.
Amazing but, wish if they could add fans to the place to circulate the air at least. It was an open area surrounded with high walls from all sides! It’s like sitting in a cave. Ticket price is 75 for Arabs but they took 82 from each one of us!!
BEWARE the scammers! This is not the real location! Look for "Wekalet el Ghouri Arts Center" on Maps to find the real place. Here are pics and I'm also posting a video on how to find the entrance. Go there at 6pm-6:15pm and queue up. They'll ask for 82 LE pp., but on the tickets there's 75 LE, we had to pay up. It's cash only and they have no change. Very sadly poor service.
A great place to lnow more about historical islamic egyptian culture. This Sufi ritual along with other musical egyptian cultural music is magnficent to watch for Egyptains 12 pounds for tourist 82 pounds.
