Tahrir Square rd Tahrir Square، Ismailia, Qasr El Nil, Cairo Governorate, Egypt
One of must visit places in Cairo downtown. Especially mummies of pharaohs which are quiet a heritage. Then we have the jewels and the things used by this pharaohs on display. The place is huge and definitely advisable to have guide along and also lots of time in hand.
Really beautiful museum that put some historical context to all the wonderful places we visited later in Egypt. Exquisite jewellery and the mummies are extraordinary. Not too crowded and air conditioning made a pleasant break from the sun!
I'm giving this five stars for all the artifacts. It probably only deserves 4 because not everything is labeled which is a bit frustrating, but with the plethora of things to see, I can't put too much blame on them. Definitely want to spend several hours here and there are far too many things to see! The museum is organized somewhat by eras, and also hosts some artifacts beyond ancient Egypt (Greek and Roman for example). Overall it was a wonderful experience and I am impressed with the place.
I liked being there for the first time but tbh it's not a good idea to visit it in summer (it's very hot!) . I think it's going to be moved (most of it) to the new grand museum soon so I don't really know if it'll be a good place to go (in winter) or not!
It contains so many ancient Egyptian statues, mummies and antiquities. I really enjoyed every moment there. I recommend that you walk with the museum guides to understand more about everything and this service is for free.
