Villa Orange:1. Walk in Venice; CANNAREGGIO neighborhood Follow from 1-16 for the city walk of 6,5 km in the Cannareggio sestiere (neighborhood) in Venice.

Villa Orange:3. Around 1500 the Jews were obliged to settle here. There are some Jewish stores, kosher restaurants and synagogues that make Jewish history tangible.

Villa Orange:4. The Jewish Museum of Venice is situated in the Campo of the Ghetto Novo, between the two most ancient Venetian synagogues. It is a little but very rich museum founded in 1953 by the Jewish Community of Venice.

Villa Orange:5. In the quiet part of Cannareggio you can find the beautiful Madonna dell'Orto church (Campo Madonna dell’Orto). The painter Tintoretto lived nearby and his grave is in this church, as well as some of his paintings. Remarkable fact: in 1993 a painting by Bellini was stolen here. Villa Orange:6. On the Campo dei Mori you can see statues of four Moors in the facades of the houses. The word Moor comes from Morea, Ventian dialect for Peloponnese (Greece). The statues are of the Arabian brothers and merchants Rioba, Sandi and Alfani Mastelli who fled Venice around 1112. They traded in silk and spices. The fourth statue is perhaps one of their servants.

Villa Orange:7. The bridge without railing, Ponte Chiodo (Rio di San felice, Venezia), is not really a sight, but it is the only remaining bridge without railings in Venice. In the past, all bridges looked like this. The name comes from a Venetian family who once owned the bridge.

Villa Orange:8. The enormous baroque facade of the Maria Assunta church, also called I Gesuiti (Campo dei Gesuiti, Venezia), is nothing compared to the abundance inside. This large church is richly decorated with white and green marble. The highlights are paintings from Tintoretto (Assunzione della Vergine Maria) and Tiziano Vecellio (Martirio di San Lorenzo).

Villa Orange:9. The Gothic Santi Giovanni e Paolo church is also called San Zanipolo. This church was built by Dominicans in the 13th century. In this church are buried 25 Doge's (= heads of state of the Venetian Republic). You can also see paintings from Veronese, Tiepolo and Bellini here. Villa Orange:10. Next to the Santi Giovanni e Paolo church you see a richly decorated facade from the main entrance to the hospital. A very unusual hospital.

Villa Orange:11. At bookstore Acqua Alta (Calle Lunga santa Maria Formosa 5176b, Venezia) they have (second-hand) books. In the middle of the large and cozy messy shop is a gondola filled with books and in another place is a bathtub filled with books.

Villa Orange:12. In the 16-century Palazzo Querini Stampalia (Campo Santa Maria Formosa 5252, Venezia) is a museum and an old library. The museum has a beautiful Bellini painting and there are occasional modern art exhibitions.

Villa Orange:13. Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a small white church in a beautiful location (Campo dei Miracoli, Venezia). The walls are richly decorated with marble, inside and outside. The church was once built to accommodate a painting by Nicolò di Pietro (Madonna con Bambino - Maria with child). Miracles were attributed to this 15th century glory and hangs above the altar. There are also many pagan symbols in the church. The church is known as a wedding church; many foreigners get married here.

Villa Orange:14. The Ca' d'Oro, with its striking Gothic facade, is certainly one of the most beautiful palaces on the Grand Canal. This 15th-century palazzo houses an art collection. In addition to many religious paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries, you can also admire fragments of frescoes by Titian. The view from the balconies and the huge mosaic floor outside make it a special place to visit.

Villa Orange:15. Venice’s perfume tradition has ancient roots. By the 18th century, the city became one of the most important centers for trading perfumes and pharmaceutical products, thanks to merchants importing spices and essential oils from the Orient. Spezieria all’Ercole d’Oro – established in 1650 – reached great success and popularity. The furniture and paneling are in walnut root wood, rich in details The walls feature four allegorical statues by Pietro Zandomeneghi, representing Botany, Medicine, Surgery and Physics. Over the years Spezieria hired skilled chemists and pharmacists.

Villa Orange:16. The facade of the church of Santa Maria di Nazareth is late Venetian baroque. The church was consecrated in 1705 and underwent a major restoration by the Austrian government between 1853 and 1862. The church is decorated with sumptuous Corinthian marble, an impressive organ, statues and frescoes. It gives a feeling of opulence and amazement to the visitor.
