A must-do day trip away from Saigon, if you have the time to spare. I would highly, highly recommend going for a tour regardless of how "independent" of a traveller you are. Firstly, there aren't much explanations to the history or facts behind the exhibitions there if you come without a guide. Secondly, tour operators also include transportation fees from Saigon city, which can be really handy for the Cu Chi tunnels as it was located quite far out (2 hours drive away) from Saigon. Personally, we had a great tour guide (I booked the tour through Hideway Hostel Saigon) who also contributed HIS own personal experiences with the Vietnam war, and that's always what I look for with local guides - stories.

A great way to learn and experience guerrilla life during Vietnam War. Our tour guide, Tram, was terrific! She's got a good grasp of her country's history and delivers it with a lovely humour. A trip to Ho Chi Minh City is never complete without visiting Cu Chi Tunnels

It was a really interesting and factual trip to the tunnels. The most intresting part was to crawl inside of the tunnels for 100 meters and be able to feel how small and tight those tunnels actually were. The big downside to visiting the cu chi tunnels is that they are kind of far from the city center. Another downside is the amount of tourists there. If you have a day over to spend i would recommend it but it's not the end of the world if you miss it either.

Felt a bit tearful on arrival see the plane and other vehicles before we went in. Did not take many pictues. It was interesting to hear another side to the story. I chose not to go down the tunnels but liked being told what they were like. Also saw a short film and saw displays. We had tapioca with savory dip and a cup of Vietnamese tea at the end.

This is an amazing and must do experience in Vietnam. We booked a top rated tour through Viator. The guide picked us up from our hotel in District 1 and we drove about 2 hours to reach the tunnels, with a rest stop half way. The tunnels are fascinating and well preserved, and our guide was fun, knowledgeable and spoke very good English. An incredible experience. Highly recommend.
