A preserve with a whole lot of history. This place very well kept, with stunning mangrove forests and wildlife. This park is more than just the observation tower. The history behind its development and preservation gives a deeper meaning to your trailing experience. Great trails, and they do have cool kayak paths through mangrove tunnels as well.

It's a great place to run/walk. See mangrove s up close.. Saw lots of fish 🐠 mullet and snook., Tortoises. Can rent kayaks. Trails are 1/2 boardwalk and natural. Culture center has lots of info, and an 80ft native American American canoe. (Hundreds of years old) Weedon island is a preserve. That means no pets, fishing or bicycle 🚳 on trails. Note there is fishing 🐟 on pier. Bicycling on roads. It's not a zoo. Don't always see a lot of wildlife. No snack bars.

Quiet place in nature but close to the city. Great nature preserve. Boardwalks, hiking paths, observation tower where on a clear day you can see downtown St Pete, Tampa and the bay, piers, mangroves and various fish and wildlife. Take a minute to see the history of Weedon Island and the airport that used to be there. I go often just to get some exercise and get away from everything. I highly recommend.

Great place, kind of wish there was a few more indicators that where you are will get you back to the start because I did get a little worried we was lost, although we wasn't, but for first timers it can be intimidating, however, beautiful walk, peaceful, no smoking, no bikes, no dogs made it easier to walk with my kids than some places. We saw a lot of cool things, my kids learned without it being painful 😉😂. We will be going back. Oh and a bathroom at the entrance would have been nice sense I had to stop while driving and let my son pee outside, I have 3 kids with different abilities so it was nice to go somewhere quiet and not over stimulating.

Perhaps this is a nice place to visit - I will never know because there isn't adequate parking. All 6 times I've tried to visit, I've had to leave and go somewhere else since I couldn't find a parking space. Is there an alternative to driving? I'll let you decide: The nearest bus stop is an hour walk away. Perhaps one could bike there? The nearest public parking lot, Lee Street Parking, is 4.6 miles away along dangerous streets that completely lack bicycle lanes. All parking that is closer is private parking for businesses that will gleefully tow anyone who tries to park there for any other reason that to go to that particular business. Of course, all these issues could be alleviated with the incredibly simple and essentially free act of allowing people to park along the road in the grass within the preserve, but no, that is forbidden and will in fact get you ticketed. This will never be allowed because it makes sense and it's apparently illegal for our astonishingly incompetent government to ever do the least little thing that makes sense. So, for the vast majority of visitors to the Weedon Island Preserve, all they will ever do is circle around the parking lot endlessly praying for a parking spot to open, which I have never seen happen. And instead of our useless, parasitic government accepting that the lack of adequate parking at Weedon is an issue and doing something about it, they will continue to bask in their blinding incompetence and hand out tickets to anyone who attempts to do something that makes sense, like park on the grass. Honestly, since it is impossible for anyone to ever visit this preserve, it should just be shuttered. That way, all the useless parasites that are employed there can be fired and forced to find real jobs for the first time in their worthless lives.
