I’ve been to Maine several times since the late 90’s and We always visit and usually buy one of the bells. They are beautiful , unique and great gifts We are flying up from Florida this week and will visit again. If you’re up that way make it a point to stop in
Add this to the top of your list if you are in the area. This family owned and operated business is run with great care, love, and skill. Cindy welcomed us graciously and shared information about the inspiration for her husband’s bells, her own quilt work, and her son’s woodwork. She offered (we accepted) to take us on a tour of the foundry and the workshop located on-site. She answered our questions (which were many), and was the very picture and essence of kindness and grace. Celebrating their 50th year in business, it is clear why this place has found and maintained their success. I can’t imagine how many tourists Cindy has seen this summer, let alone in 50 years, and she treated us like we were the first people to ever walk through that door. Lest I forget, the products available are one of a kind and of great quality and artistry. Forget the tourist traps and t-shirts and posters, this is truly a memory and an heirloom that any person could treasure for a lifetime. Please visit and support these fine, fine people if you can. You will not be disappointed!
We bought one of these bells years ago on our first ever trip to Maine - and it was lost in one of our many moves. Unfortunately, we couldn’t remember where the bell maker was located - imagine our surprise when on this trip, we drove right past his shop, and recognized it immediately. It is so fun to purchase a bell, as they all have a different tone - so it is as much about the sound as the appearance! We are so happy to finally replace our lost bell!
I enjoyed meeting the members of this family owned business. Our kids were able to take a look at the molds they use to make their bells. Great that it’s made right there in their workshop. The sound of the bells , the appearance, the quality is superb. It’s art, music and something authentic you can make part of your home. This is a unique place and I would highly recommend them. Thanks for showing us around !
A super-interesting and wonderful place to visit! For extra enjoyment; be sure to call them first and ask if they are doing a "pour" that day; you will then be able to watch them mold bells and/or related parts from a large crucible of glowing-yellow molten bronze
Sharing is caring!
