The skunk train was AMAZING. So fun, so informational, and the beautiful scenery, cool breezes and even a snack area on the train. I loved that we were able to stop and get out for a little bit, got some great family pictures.. We had the best time.. all 12 of us.. from 3 to 62 Loved it..

This review is for the Rail Bikes only. (Should be listed as a separate attraction on map). These are a lot of fun and easy to use. Very scenic trip although fairly short. At the end you have time to hike a couple of short trails while they turn the bikes and await the Skunk train to arrive and depart. Going back uphill we surprisingly never needed the electric assist. The track can vibrate a lot in places so hard to hold a camera steady. Bringing a versatile mount would be a good idea. There is a small basket for backpack and water bottle but it is just out of reach while moving. Maybe they can add a basket between the seats for water bottles. I stuck my phone in the front pocket of a cooler and was able to get a crooked time lapse video. My only knock on this is they are missing a sales opportunity in the gift shop. No Rail Bike mementos like magnets, ornaments, pics or videos

When I was 13 my dad took my sister and I when it still went all the way through from Willits to Fort Bragg. It was nice as a kid. It doesn't go all the way through for now because they had a tunnel collapse and haven't gotten the funding needed to rebuild it yet. Overall it was really nice, but not the same. From my understanding they have some funding, but are waiting for the Federal government to approve the final funding and could be anywhere from 2025-2030...waiting for the government, that doesn't sound like them at all! 🙄 They have a bunch of model trains you can check out after or geek out on like me! Somebody put a lot of love and time building the model trains! If you have children, grandchildren, or just a kid at heart yourself it's definitely and absolutely worth it! Go get your train on!

Two adults and two kids - two hundred dollars and well worth it. We found the Skunk Train while on an RV trip around the country with our grandsons. Initially, a road sign caught my eye but I discounted it as yet another road side attraction. My wife was interested enough to look it up and it looked interesting enough for a detour. BEST DETOUR EVER!! This is a two hour train ride with a real diesel train and very old passenger cars AND an open car. They take you an hour into the mountains then back. You will see redwoods and travel through a hand carved tunnel. I can’t do justice to just how awesome this ride is. They have a snack bar and a bathroom onboard and you can move freely between the cars!! Regardless of covid, I strongly suggest you wear a mask. This is a real Diesel Train complete with diesel exhaust so the mask will trap a good bit of soot. People working there were so nice and friendly - remember to bring cash for a tip! This excursion was well worth the detour.

What a neat experience!! I have a 4 yr old who loves trains so this was a no brainer! We took the 9am train into the redwood grove and the weather was just perfect! The popcorn is great and comes with a souvenir bucket for $9. We decided to stay at the destination and wait for the next train to come which was the best decision! There is a 1 mile mild/moderate hike you can take just beyond the tracks, which goes up and around some beautiful scenery with fresh air!! Perfect for family of all ages! You do not need a stroller but would recommend just a harness carrier for babies that are not walking. They also offer a military discount if you call or pay in person. We will definitely be doing the train again!!
