Beautiful! Bathrooms, small cafe and large selection in gift shop. Interesting parking situation (not my favorite) but a GREAT way to spend the afternoon. Very windy road to get to, scared me a bit, but drive safely and it's no problem. Paved trails are great for even a stroller (or if you're up for the hike with a tot strapped on in a carrier). Would recommend closed toed shoes, but just personal preference for outdoor activities. So many areas for great photos, and lots of areas to take a rest.
The trees were beautiful and the wildlife was really cool. We saw wild deer and turkeys. I did feel like it was a little bit of a tourist trap though. You have to buy parking passes ahead of time just to get in. After going to Sequoia national Park and Yosemite national park; the trees at Muir Woods seemed little in comparison. Still for being so close to San Francisco it was really cool!
For a person who isn't huge on nature stuff, this place is worth the visit. Stunning views of a beautiful forest. Air as clean as it should be, refreshing for the soul and mind. Reasonable loop hike...say an hour or two depending on your pace. Man made trail so you don't walk through the woods. Easy for almost anyone. Highly recommend!
Absolutely Amazing!!!! These are some of the biggest trees our family has ever seen. Stunning! The basic walk was fairly easy and perfect for our family, but there are many longer hikes that include the basic area as well. There are even a few trees you can actually go inside of, and great information if you want to read about what you are seeing. 😊 A definite "must see" if you are in the area. Bring your camera! We spotted a deer as we were walking, too. (Don't feed the chipmunks by the snack area!! Ha ha ha!!! 😄. Seriously though, they are cute, but really, don't feed any wildlife while you are hiking.)
Totally worth the half hour drive from San Francisco. Go online and reserve parking as the lots are small and fill up. We were there "off season" and were able to reserve the night b4 but I wouldn't recommend that if your in San Francisco during the summer or a holiday weekend. We were expecting to only be there for a few minutes to check in out but 2 hours and 10k later we emerged. The forest just has a way of captivating the soul.
