This is a beautiful hike with plenty of shade for rest. We have four small kids and hike a lot. This is not an easy trail. Expect 60-80 minutes up with little kids (7 and under). Parts of the trail require crossing streams, climbing/stepping on rocks and the beginning of the trail has a pretty steep incline. Bottom Line: this is a hard hike for little legs…worth the effort to see the water fall but NOT an easy family hike with little kids.
I've done this hike before, but as of 2021 the parking situation isn't worth the hike. I have to question the wisdom of an online only parking reservation system in a place with no service. The parking is by highway 9, and the shuttle to the trailhead is also inconvenient. If you have a reservation in advance for parking this might still be worth it. The parking is also overpriced for a spot that has been free in past years.
The new parking system completely ruins the joy of calmly hiking the trail and spending time out there without worrying about getting stranded or fined.
Beautiful trail with waterfalls! You will meet amazing views during the hike. Go a little early to find easy parking as it gets really busy by noon. I visited here on a very hot summer day. The hike is about roughly 6 miles to and back so carry lots of fluids and snacks with you. You will lose cellular network before even starting the hike so plan appropriately. The trails are not marked so it could get a little tricky.
Got there a bit late. Other cars that had been parked near the turning area for the shuttle had been given tickets ($100). There Is parking further back and in town. Shuttle comes every 30 mins. Last shuttle is at a 7 so we took a rain check. Also access road was quite snowy so a shuttle is probably a cunning plan! Other hikers said trail was awesome.
