Visit a bit of Chicago history and have a burger!
One of the most unique restaurants in Chicago! This place is underground and serves simple yet delicious burgers! Very thin patties so make sure you get a double (or triple) burger! Best of all - a full bar is available too! Definitely a place worth checking out, especially if you need a break from the slightly pretentious Magnificent Mile. This is the definition of no-thrills, but is everything you need.
Great food! I had the Obama Burger (Double Cheeseburger) with their extra add-ons of fried hard egg, bacon, and grilled onions with tomato and lettuce. They don't offer fries or onion rings, but should! Google Maps doesn't give you the best directions. My friend and I had to stop and ask directions. Where google maps states the Tavern is located is misleading. It leads you to a spot on Michigan Ave. You have to walk through this area to get to lower Rush Street. Then you take the elevator or the stairs down to get there. Then you walk back under in the direction of where you just came and you'll see the sign on your left side. The tavern is underground.
Delicious, cheap, and fast
I came here after a recommendation. This was well worth the stop. A small dive bar on the lower street with fantastic burgers! I highly recommend the double cheese with everything... ketchup, onions, cheede, and pickles. They also only have Coke products and chips. Sit at the bar and have a bilky goat beer, try the IPA! The burgers come on a soft bun and grilled to perfection, as the onions are too! Take a trip down the steps to get here. Google maps won't tell you it is a level lower than Michigan Ave. You won't be disappointed.
