Love love love this place!!! The forest ranger was very helpful and generous with allowing us to use the entire cowboy camp. It was clean with more than adequate grass for my horses to eat so that we didn't have to feed hay and the camp was very clean. We look forward to having to go through there again just so we can camp there again

We loved visiting Bear Butte. The hike up the Butte is about 2 miles with a 1000 foot elevation change. Our whole family of 6 did the hike - even our 4 year old, although she needed help and we had to keep her very close to us at times because the hike gets tricky. The view is well worth the work to get there. Also we liked the visitor's center - lots of interesting things to learn there.

Love the tranquility of hiking Bear Butte Lake. We saw a beautiful blue racer snake today too. They are harmless! Wonderful place to take your dog for a run but I would suggest both humans and pets look carefully for ticks before getting in your vehicle. The only thing I would suggest is a dumpster or trash can near the restroom/outhouse halfway around the lake.

The 1000 feet hike was well worth it...not an easy climb, but if you are able, go for it.

Nice quiet park. Be aware of mosquitos. A trail can be hiked to summit. This is a speritual place so visit accordingly. Entrance fee of 6 dollars per car per day. Season pass is available. Self service pay at entry gate. Bring binoculars. Not a park for camping or picnics. What you bring in is what you bring out. Look up state park info before going. This will help you understand what park is about. Unique park worth the visit.
