If you’re thinking about visiting this place, DO IT!!! I been to Chicago many times although this was my first time at Au Cheval and it was definitely worth the hype. Wait was not bad at all about 30-40 minutes we walked to some nearby shops in the meantime. We got super lucky with outdoor seating in the tent on a beautiful sunny day. I wish I could remember the name of the waiter she was very friendly and cool made the experience that much better. We came for the burger like many others; It was the most delicious burger! It was so juicy yet no grease drip at all. the burger had the perfect amount of meat, cheese, and sauce. It was perfect and well put together. We got a side of ranch and fries and I cannot explain how good everything tasted. The best meal I’ve had in a while. Loved every single thing tabout this place. will return for sure !!!!! Thank you!

Got to say, burgers live up to the hype. Had the the double with bacon and an egg. Next time though I'd probably opt for the single or split a double. If you're a meat lover definitely go for the double. Fries were pretty good. My party went on a beautiful sunny Saturday about 20 minutes after they opened. Host told us the wait for a table for three was 45 minutes. We were seated in about 30 minutes.

Great experience! Service and food quality has been consistent each time I come here. Single Cheeseburger with Bacon and Egg is all you need to order. It comes with two patties cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. The bacon is a nice addition as it is slightly sweet and almost melts in your mouth. French fries with the garlic aioli sauce is also a must-try!! Personally think this is the best burger place in Chicago :)

Super overrated. Waited two hours for a very average burger (in my opinion) and a strange atmosphere. Our server was great, but everyone else working seemed almost upset that they were busy, a weird vibe all around. On a positive note, the egg-fries were great and once again, our server did a good job. No worth the expensive price or the wait.

At the recommendation two of our friends, my wife and I stopped in for lunch last weekend to kick off our anniversary weekend away from the kiddos. The first thing I noticed was that the hostess, who was quite busy, walked out of the door and through the mild chaos of people standing there waiting to put their name in, looked directly at the gentleman in front of us and said, "I know you're next, I'll be right back to help you." She was friendly and reassuring to the man that his place in the gaggle-line was secure. That little detail was my first assurance that superior service was likely to follow. After we checked in, the hostess took my number and said I would get a text when our table was ready, in about 20 minutes. It gave us just enough time to walk down the street and grab a mimosa somewhere else while we waited. The text was right on time, so we weren't rushed through our drinks or left wondering if our text was coming. Also, quite nice. We had mimosas, burgers, and fries. All of which were a notch above other similar places. I had them put bacon on my burger. The sweetness of the maple bacon (or whatever magic rub that was) complemented the burger, onions, pickles, and sauce so nicely. That in itself was a 5 star experience for us, but it gets even better. Our friends, the ones who recommended Au Cheval, had tragedy hit them and a family member had to spend a few days in the hospital. I offered to bring them their favorite (and now mine too) burgers for lunch. Again, it started off with a pleasant welcome from the same hostess. We were chatting a bit while I ordered and paid. I had mentioned the situation that led me to Au Cheval for lunch that day and she was visibly touched by the story. When I went outside to wait for the food, she came out to inform me of a very lovely and generous gesture that she and her coworkers wanted to make. I was floored. TLDR: The food is amaze-balls! The people are exactly the kind of people that you want to give your business to. I will be back again and again and again. Please do yourself a favor and go.
