Seeing puffins has been on my bird bucket list for a long time now. Tricia and her husband were the best guides I could have asked for. Me and my best friend were a few minutes late and we never felt like either tour guide held it against us. The knowledge and expertise that both demonstrated was remarkable. The added sightseeing of “the big black ledge” for seals was an absolute capstone, I cannot say enough good things for this tour!
Great experience with Tricia as our guide and Steve as our captain. The puffins were still there on 8/19 which I would not have expected. Both Tricia and Steve have a great eye for finding birds! Can’t wait to do this trip next year in June when more species will be present!
Cannot day enough good things about this cruise. They knew just where to go for puffins, seals, and bald eagles. They had extra binoculars And snacks too A great experience !!
We had a Great experience on this tour. It is a husband and wife team running this tour. He drives the boat and she ensures safety and answers questions and points out wildlife, etc. There were 15-20 on the boat and there was plenty of room. You drive maybe 40 minutes to an island with many puffins and other birds. They are sitting and flying and swimming. Very easy for all to see. There is a lighthouse there too. You stay there maybe 40 minutes and they we went to a rock island with many seals. We stayed there for quite awhile too. They were very helpful with questions, etc. The price is kind of high, but didn’t really compare to other companies as we liked the Winter Harbor location. You can’t go wrong with this tour.
We had the pleasure of taking a puffin cruise on 8/14/19. A great time was had by all! First we listened to the tour guide explain about the safety stuff and what to do in case of emergency. It took a while to get to the island where the puffins hang out, but along the way we had beautiful views of schoodic and sea views of mount desert. Then, we heard the tour guide yell “sunfish!” And the boat slowed and turned and there was a HUGE sunfish-kinda looks like a huge stingray without the tail. Once we got to the island the captain took great care to ensure we always had a fantastic close view of the puffins, and the couple of seals bobbing in the water without ever bothering them. We spent about 1/2 hour there watching and listening to the guide talk about them and the island. Any question asked of the tour guide was answered knowledgeably and they passed out a snack tray and bottled water for the ride back. Next, on the way back we swung by and stopped near a rock the size of a small house where different kinds of seals hang out and watched them for a bit before heading back. All in all a fantastic couple hours and WELL worth the money!
