Great Pulteney St, Bathwick, Bath BA2 4DB, UK
The building itself - old and new parts - and grounds are beautiful. However the permanent collection is pretty dull to anyone without a serious interest in antiques, and I wouldn't bring kids here unless there's a specific exhibition aimed at children. I find the cost of the temporary exhibitions too high, and it's such a small place you don't get much for that price either. The cafe is really nice and rather sophisticated - read 'expensive'. And if your kid wants an ice lolly, you're out of luck - it's posh ice cream or nothing! Best suited to older people or well-off foreign tourists with disposable income, than families or young people, which is a shame.
A very fine museum. Small but filled with wonderful treasures. Always worth opening the drawers in the extension you never know what you'll find!! Great for kids to explore and engage. Good cafe too.
We went to the Canaletto exhibition. It was not crowded, well-arranged and easy yo see the pics. I am not keen on Canaletto- seen one, you've seen the lot- but if you are a fan you'd love it. The cafe was in full swing. The main room on first floor no longer had the big table in the middle which made it easier to enjoy the proportions. I was pleased to see in the portrait gallery that effort had been made to explain the sitters' connection with slavery. As always, a rewarding visit.
An attractive, well cared for and interesting museum. Friendly and well informed staff. Very much enjoyed the Canaletto museum. Nice tea room at the back (though ordering on an app is a bit of a pain!). Well worth a visit.
Great and varied art collection. I paid £6 I think as an Art Fund member so it’s half price. Lovely and chatty guide talked to me about some of the artworks. Not crowded. Beautiful building. Rossetti exhibition very good.
