Castle Hill, Doune FK16 6EA, UK
I was pleasantly surprised that this castle was filmed in the outlander series! I was going to this castle to find out about the Monty python movie the holy grail. Those tidbits were funny and the history of the actual castle was quite interesting. I enjoyed this a lot but i did it in an hour but I didn't shop. Driving there can be a bit tight and parking is limited. When I went the castle was under construction so I couldn't get the full impact of the castle outside in the open fields which I would have loved but I still enjoyed my tour.
I know people hate scaffolding but to be honest, if this keeps the Castle in top condition I’m all for it and won’t drop a star because of that. The Castle is pretty easy to access and the staff are welcoming on arrival. Be sure to get the audio headset, especially if you are a Monty Python fan! Terry Jones is brilliant and I found myself giggling listening to movie audio in the rooms scenes were filmed. The actual historical information is really interesting too. There is a small gift shop also so make sure you stop in there too.
Really liked this castle. Terry Gilliam's narration was spot on and it's fascinating to hear not only about the castle's ancient history but of the making of Monty Python and the Holy Grail too! Good gift shop too!
Pretty cool. Less than £10 entry. Wish you could walk on the walls but they were closed. Watch out for the turn off to get into the place - it's very sharp and narrow.
Fantastic. We'll worth a visit. Car park can fill up but the car park attendants do a great job. Really enjoyed exploring it as did the children.
