Clay Hill Rd, Tunbridge Wells TN3 8LJ, UK
Beautifully secluded, historically expansive abbey ruins. Summerhouse and gate by the river. Various labelled rooms around the main ruins. Intricate stonework and faces on show. Archways, windows and pillars are everywhere. English Heritage occupy the gothic house in the grounds. Entry - free.
Another sacred place we have come across. Loved it and will definitely be back in summer! If you like history and ruins, this place is for you! ❤
Historical Abbey, very picturesque place to spend some time. All you'll need is about an hour or so to appreciate it,the deer in the adjacent park are an interesting side note. There is nothing here apart from the ruins so don't expect toilets or teas or coffee etc it's just historical ruins. The signs which clearly state children should be supervised and not climb on the ruins obviously need to be in BIG LETTERS as when we visited it wasn't been adhered to which is an unfortunate part of society today.
Spent a couple or so hours here two weeks ago when it was gorgeously warm. Which of course made this visit even worthwhile in terms of looking around and just to absorb the peace and serenity of the ruins
This ancient Abbey is meticulously maintained, with signs noting what each area was before it feel into ruin. The twisted tree growing behind the alter is poetic in its placement and attests to the age of the site. BEWARE: the carpark isn't free, the signage telling how to pay (via text only) and how much (£2 as of May 2021) is small and only on one of the two signs. Signal isn't great here either so actually sending the text can be problematic so be sure to screenshot when you have sent it.
