Armando Pedraza González:Guanajuato officially called the Free and Sovereign State of Guanajuato is one of thirty-one states, which together with Mexico City, form Mexico. Its capital is the City of Guanajuato.

Armando Pedraza González:The Monument to the Epipila is a monument in honor of El Pípila, is located in the City of Guanajuato, Guanajuato, was created by the sculptor Juan Fernando Olaguíbel (who also created La Diana Cazadora), based on pink quarry and was inaugurated in September 1939. The site where the monument is located gives a panoramic image of the City of Guanajuato so it is a traditionally touristic site.

Armando Pedraza González:Guanajuato's mummies can befound in the city's Mummy Museum. Here, the mummified bodies of local people, (a consequence of the peculiar mineral composition of the region's soil) have been on display since 1870. The first mummy to be exhumed was that of a French Doctor Remigio Leroy, in 1865. Today, the museum consists of various exhibition halls, in which 119 mummified bodies are on display; 79 women, 21 men and 19 children, one of which is the smallest mummy in the world.

Armando Pedraza González:Padre Belauzarán and Hidalgo, Guanajuato's unique under ground streets, cross the city along the dry riverbed of the River Guanajuato. From 1963 to 1966 they were converted into streets measuring 3 km long. From here, one can admire some of the city's charming archways and balconies, which loom over every opening in the tunnel.

Armando Pedraza González:The Juarez Theater is a majestic structure that is located in the city center. Its construction began in 1872 and was completed in 1903. The neoclassical style of its facade is crowned by bronze statues of the Greek muses. The interior offers a wealth of delights, such as the entrance and foyer (or Smoking Room), with their columns and garlands and elegant decor. The auditorium itself is Mauresque, with ara besque detail throughout. The curtain bears a splendid painting of Constantinople. It is the only theater in the country that has conserved its original furnishings.

Armando Pedraza González:The so-called 'Kiss Alley' is located near the Plazuela de los Angeles. It is a traditional narrow alley, which at its most famous point has two balconies which are just 68 cm (27 inches) apart, here is the site of a romantic legend that tells the tragic story of two young sweethearts.

Armando Pedraza González:Guanajuato's magnificent baroque style Temple of San Diego was built between 1780 and 1784. In the 19th century, its spetacular gilt altarpieces were replaced with neoclassical versions. The church also houses an important collection of recently restored paintings, dating from the 19th century and earlier.

Armando Pedraza González:A majestic medieval style construction, its origins a former 17th century mining Hacienda. Following reconstruction, the building now has the appearance of a castle, through is in fact a hotel.
