Most people who travel to The Netherlands only go to Amsterdam. However, if you truly want to discover the full extent of Dutch Culture you should look further afield. Each of the smaller cities have their own charms and the Dutch countryside is among the least explored in Europe.

Robin:Although there is a friendly rivalry between Rotterdam and Amsterdam, the cities are vastly different. After World War II, Rotterdam was almost completely rebuild, which makes it a very modern city. Rotterdam is mostly known for it's port, which actually is the biggest in Europe.

Robin:Groningen is the most northern city in The Netherlands. It's is a very old city with some documents already referring to it in the year 1040. Nowadays it has become a student city with approximately 25% of the inhabitants being a student. The city is vibrant, youth-full and historical.

Nature

The Netherlands is not famous for its nature. Pretty logical for a country with 18 million inhabitants in such a small country. But if you are looking for a breath of fresh air or a small hike, there is some pretty nice places to go to.

Robin:This nature reserve is characterised by it's small hills. The name translates to Utrecht's Hill Ridge. It was created in the Ice Age where this was the border of a big glacier, which made area go hilly. This place is perfect for outdoor activities such as mountain-biking, road cycling and hiking.
