Day Trip #1 - Laugarvatn and Vicinity

Laugarvatn is a lake in the Southern Region of Iceland. It's just under a one and a half hour's drive from the capital. Here are a few nice things to do and see near Laugarvatn:

Nína:Lovely spa at the lakeside. During winter, you can linger in the warm water and gaze at the stars while lake-swimming is an option during the summer. Highly recommended.

Nína:Friðheimar is a gorgeous combination of a greenhouse and a restaurant. Fresh ingredients and a fresh vibe.

Nína:Snorralaug is a geothermal pool in Reykholt. It used to belong to Snorri Sturluson, one of Iceland's most prominent writers and politicians during the Age of the Sturlungs. Unfortunately, it's prohibited to take a dip.

Day Trip #2 - Reykjanes

Reykjanes Peninsula is where the Blue Lagoon and the Keflavik Intl. Airport is situated. The area is home to many of Iceland's most special geological wonders.

Nína:Kleifarvatn is a beautiful lake on the Reykjanes Peninsula. It's location on the Mid-Atlantic ridge makes it a perfect spot for snorkling.

Snæfellsnes is a very diverse region, close enough to the capital to explore it in one day. Here are the highlights:

Nína:Almannagja is one of Thingvellir's most popular attractions. It is a valley situated between two tectonic plates. It has a very accessible walking path that leads to Öxararfoss Wataerfall.

Nína:According to the tradition, it is obligatory to throw coins into the Peningagja fissure if you are nearby. The origin of this custom is unknown but I suspect it is linked to some kind of a superstition.
