The south coast is without any doubt our favorite part of Iceland. We might be biased since our family comes from Vík í Mýrdal. We still have a place there, and many of our relatives still live there.
Snæfellsnes is only a 2-hour drive from Reykjavik and has some many interesting places to offer, so it is definitely worth checking out.
The Blue Lagoon is one of the biggest tourists attraction in Iceland. Everyone tries to capitalize off it. Best/cheaper way to do it is just to book a bus to and from the Lagoon and then book the tickets by yourself at www.bluelagoon.is. Here is a list with bus rides and some other hot springs options if you don't want to go to the Blue Lagoon.
