If you're travelling as a family - these are just some of the many attractions that are less than 20 miles from Stainsborough Hall

Joanne:Ride the cable cars over the Derwent Valley and then take a tour of the caves. There's an adventure playground and coffee shop at the top too! My nephew's loved it!

Joanne:A lovely museum that shows how we used to live - and lots of trams to ride on. What more can you want it you like trams and trains.

Joanne:Perhaps a surprising suggestion - but I've heard great things about this museum (particularly if it's raining). There's a mine tour and panning for gold which is always popular.

Joanne:Alton Towers very rarely needs an introduction, but we are quite close and teenagers love this theme park.

Joanne:The tour at the White Peak Distillery was fascinating and the gin tasting at the end was great. We bought a few bottles and are still trying them.

Joanne:This is a new attraction in the Derbyshire Dales and quite close to Stainsborough Hall. We've all see Top Gear - so now you can drive your dad's car too and see an amazing collection of cars.

Joanne:You can access the traffic-free trail around Carsington Water directly from our grounds. The 8-mile loop is perfect for family walks and cycling, or even your morning jog!

Joanne:Very local and a lovely place to visit. There' s a coffee shop (when they are allowed to open) and fantastic views from the top.

Joanne:One of the most iconic pictures you'll see from the Peak District is of people walking across the stepping stones in Dovedale. A definite must!

Joanne:It's only a couple of miles to the edge of the Peak District but venture further in for stunning scenery and amazing walks.

Sports and Activities

If you are looking for activities - there are plenty to choose from.

Joanne:There are a range of activities to try here - hire a bike to go around the water or get out onto the reservoir. You can organise fishing, paddle-boarding, sailing and raft building (and much more) here.

Joanne:Less than five minutes from Stainsborough Hall - hire a cycle at Middleton Top and you are straight onto the High Peak Trail.

Joanne:If you want to try the Tissington Trail - you can hire a bike at its base in Ashbourne. It's a steady incline going out of Ashbourne, but great for coming back at the end.

Joanne:Again, a short drive from Stainsborough - Harboro Rocks has a range of packages to suit shooters of all abilities.

Joanne:Messing about on the river can't be beaten. One of the more sedate ways to get out onto the river at Matlock Bath.

Local Pubs and Restaurants

These are our closest pubs - some of which you can walk to!

Joanne:This is our closest pub and an easy walk over the fields. They don't operate a booking system at the moment and they do accept dogs! Now under new management, all the reports I'm hearing are good.

Joanne:A great old-fashioned pub that is a good walk from Stainsborough. They serve ales from the kegs on the bar and it has a lovely ambience.

Joanne:A very good walk (or short drive), this pub does huge meals and great pub grub. Book in advance - it's popular.

Joanne:Re-opened after an extensive renovation a couple of years ago. The food is very good and it's surprisingly large with some nice views. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Joanne:This is one of our favourites and they've done a great job on COVID processes. A really good place for a meal and when it's possible to go back inside, it's a lovely building.

Joanne:A special occasion place - and a little pricier, but we've always had a great dinner and the building is stunning.

Joanne:A really good curry house in Matlock Bath. It is possible to organise a take-away and sometimes they will deliver.

We're not necessarily the best location if you are looking for a wild night out - but Matlock has a lively night life. Otherwise, try one of our suggestions below. Please note - if you need a taxi you will need to book ahead so please ask us for our contact list (we don't have Uber here!).
