Places to visit and things to see

Sarajevo is full of interesting architecture where most of the older buildings were built by Ottomans and the Austro-Hungarian empire. So Sarajevo's architecture was influenced by both west and the east.

Image - Baščaršija
Ibro:There is so much going on in this part of the city that it could be a story all on it's own. But in short it is the old city center whose design is mainly influenced by the Ottoman empire but the most interesting thing and one that you just have to experience for yourself is that it has preserved it's centuries old spirit.
Image - Sarajevo City Hall
Sarajevo City Hall
Ibro:The largest and most representative building of the Austro-Hungarian period in Sarajevo. Almost completely destroyed in 1992 it was rebuilt gradually from 1997 until it was finished in 2014.
Image - Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque
Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque
Ibro:Built in the 16th century, it is the largest historical mosque in Bosnia. Also one of the most representative Ottoman empire structures in the Balkans. Located almost in the center of Bascarsija it would be a shame to just walk past it.
Image - Yellow Bastion
Yellow Bastion
Ibro:A cannon fortress built in the 16th century. Mainly used as a defense point against the Austro Hungarians. Today it offers a wonderful view of the whole city and it's skyline.

Gazi Husrev-beg's Bezistan
Ibro:During the Ottoman period the inside of the Bezistan was used to trade textiles but today you can find a bit of everything. Built around the year of 1540. it is yet another time capsule in Sarajevo and it is very much like the grand bazaar in Istanbul, only much much smaller.
Image - Avaz Twist Tower
Avaz Twist Tower
Ibro:The tallest building in the Balkans and chosen by a famous German company Schüco to be amongst the 10 most beautiful buildings in the world. It's also one of the best viewpoints you can visit aand the top of the tower spins.

Most peoples favorite part, the food part

You will probably be eating a lot in Sarajevo as i always do, the smells especially on Bascarsija will always keep you hungry. Luckily you won't have to look much to find something good to eat.

Ćevabdžinica Željo
Ibro:It may not look like much from the outside(nor from the inside for that matter) but this is where i have eaten one of the best Cevapi ever, it's most of the locals favorite as well so this one is definitely a must.
Image - Spite House
Spite House
Ibro:An amazing story is set behind this house involving the City Hall, i would invite you to google it, it will be worth it. As for the food if you want to experience the original Bosnian cuisine this is the best place to do it.
Image - Zmajevac
Ibro:Zmajevac is an awesome viewpoint and also offers some very good food. It is a bit far away from the city so you will have to take a taxi if you don't have a car.
Image - Buregdžinica Bosna
Buregdžinica Bosna
Ibro:Bosnia is also known for it's pies, and the best place in Sarajevo to try them is this. All the pies are ordered in grams so in theory you can try all of them in one meal. Good luck choosing a favorite.
Image - Vatra
Ibro:Located in the city center near a communist monument(eternal flame) dedicated to the victims of the second world war. With this you have another small place for pictures and also a grate place if you care for something sweet.
Image - Milky Sarajevo
Milky Sarajevo
Ibro:The specialty of this place are pancakes, and the interesting thing is that you can customize them by your own taste in like a million different ways and it's a lovely experience if nothing else.

Museums in Sarajevo

Sarajevo is a great historical city so it doesn't surprise with the number of interesting museums it has, here are some of them.

Image - Sarajevo Tunnel
Sarajevo Tunnel
Ibro:If you have to single out one thing that saved Sarajevo under the longest siege in modern history it is this tunnel that went under the airport that was used to supply the city with food, medication and other necessities. Now it offers organised tours.
Image - Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ibro:The main city museum which changed both it's location and name a lot of times trough history. It holds more than 400,000 artifacts.
Image - Svrzo's House
Svrzo's House
Ibro:Svrzo House is a perfect example of traditions and culture of a muslim family from the end of XVIII century. It is also a great example of architecture in that period – the house is divided in two parts – selamluk (public part) and haremluk (family part of the house).
Image - War Childhood Museum
War Childhood Museum
Ibro:War Childhood Museum is a museum where you can find collection of personal stuff, photos, videos, drawings and many other things that portray childhood during the war in Bosnia (1992-1995). What you can see in this museum is something unique, something that will help you have a better understanding of the war, especially of war childhood.

Sarajevo is the biggest city in Bosnia and a city where young people come to universities from all over the country so you can expect some good times here.
