Terreiro D. João V, 2640 Mafra, Portugal
This is a very interesting place to visit. Incredibly large. A lot of history as a place of relaxation of the nobility. The library is fantastic to see. Many areas have 30 foot ceilings, matching marble on floors and walls. One of the most surprising places to visit in the region; a must see.
The palace is gargantuan. We didn't go in (if that's possible), because we were with our wonder dog. We wandered and popped into a couple of shops and had a decent enough lunch. There's a nice square across from the palace where you can sit under beautiful old trees and have coffee. All in all, Mafra is nice for killing a couple of hours.
The palace is fabulous, but we arrived for the last visit and they were asking us to leave at 17:15, turning off the lights, closing windows... When the closing time is 17:30, they just wanted to go home in advance. To sum up, nice place, but very rude people.
Magnificent, massive palace, stunning architecture, the paintings and great history. I really love the huge library. A very pleasant experience and worth the visit.
Top notch and so reasonable. Truly one on the best palaces for tour to get the royal feeling.
