R. da Ribeira Negra 314, 4000-509 Porto, Portugal
It goes up. It comes down. The passenger cars are big with lots of windows, offering great views. Passengers are allowed to bring pets and bicycles on board. We took the car to the top, and walked back down. We were told that there are 322 steps on the walk that makes its way up and down the hill. You should know that these steps are made of cobblestone and appears to be very old. They are uneven and get very slick with the slightest hint of moisture. I would walk down them, but never up. There is lots of scenery on this walk up or down these stairs, and some great views of the market and the river. Highly recommended.
Better than steps if you only have one leg
Best way to get up a big hill.
Despite the fact that all ads for the Andante day pass say you can ride this, the truth is, you cannot. The old ticket validation machines are there, but turned "off". When I confronted the ticket agent, he flat out stated that they lied about it. I initiated an official complaint. Truth is, this is a disappointing ride: it is short, half in a tunnel, the booth is stifling hot and it's tough to see out anyways. Not worth it, avoid it! If you want to waste your money, take the cable car on the other side of the river: it is more expensive, but longer, better view, more comfortable.
Pleasant, quick ride from river level to the top of the hill. Easy way to get up to the Sao bento train station and access to other public transport. Cost is 2.50 euro/person at time of this review.
