The views are amazing, seats are reasonably comfortable and staff were very kind. Definitely pay for the 360 train so you can hang out in the open air carriage. The train from MP to Cusco we were told was 3 hours but it's easily 4. We understand there are hold ups just good to plan for. The negative part of this review is the seating assignments. If traveling with a partner/group it seems as if there is no way to sit beside one another even if purchase in same transaction and requested. The seat numbers might seem that way, you'll likely be on opposite sides of the train. Both directions, we had to coordinate with passengers around us to get close to each other and this wasn't easy. We still weren't able to sit right beside on another. It seemed as if most of the carriage had the same issue. Not cool.

Staff was fantastic. Waiting for the bus was a great experience. The train it's self is worth the price. Travel in luxury and comfort.

Don't take this garbage of a train. They don't sit you next to the person on your reservation so you pay $500 to be far apart.

While the rules and luggage limits are stated many times from booking through boarding, there is absolutely no enforcement so passengers on overbooked trips are forced to deal with oversized and overweight bags crowding all available spaces including the walking paths. We ended up having to hold our small bags on our laps for the duration of both directions of the trip. On the return train, we were able to be some of the first people to board and placed our bags in a designated storage area where later passengers ended up piling up their overweight and oversized bags on top of ours, breaking our camera equipment under the weight (after I asked them not to and the staff refused to intervene or enforce the stated rules). I was able to dig my bag out of the pile after we set off, but the damage was already done. Under no circumstances should you subject yourself to this type of service at this price. There is an alternative option that I cannot confirm as being superior, but I could not imagine it being worse.

Make sure to take the VIP first class train. Its only slightly more expensive but free drinks and a 4 course menu.
