Best thing that you can do. Skip Machu Picchu a go there
Wow an amazing Ancient Inca place. The treck lasts 4 days. It's a unique magic place for nature and adventure companions.
The trek is definitely tough, but worth the effort! It’s only 42km, but takes 4 days, 3 nights to reach the ruins and return - day 1 is a downhill hike, although one you finally reach the river at the bottom of the valley I recommend tackling the brutal uphill on the other side to avoid camping at the sand fly infested river campsite. Once you’ve trekked about an hour uphill don’t give up and stop at the first campsite - I suggest persevering for 10 more minutes uphill to a far nicer one! Day 2 is an uphill slog to reach the ruins which are set in stunning surroundings. We didn’t do it, but I have since heard the llama wall is worth the effort, no matter how tired you are... Day 3 and 4 are basically back the way you came, so a very steep downhill and a touch uphill to leave the park. Some people do this trek with mules, which can be annoying when you have to move out of their way, but trekking with all your stuff gives a far greater sense of achievement!
Realy impressive site and though but great hike. Where Machu Picchu is overwhelmed with tourists. Its so easy in Choquequirao to walk alone and emphasize the history of the site.
Bigger than Macchu pitchu. Great real hiking. No train, walk of life!
