Beautiful museum with a lot of exhibitions. The concept of an open air museum in the middle of the forest works like magic. We walked in an out of the buildings and talked to the museum staff, young men and women in traditional clothes who were friendly and helpful. There is a lot to see and learn about Norway and Norwegians all in beautiful surrounding and as part of a process of a walk and discovery. A must see.

Beautiful outdoor open air museum. Has buildings and farm houses from different eras and regions of Norway. Walking amidst the houses and trees is a good way to spend a day, since it is very easy to lose track of time! A must see, I enjoyed every minute!

This museum was the unexpected gem of our visit... 160 houses transplanted from around the country from the 1200s onwards. Also includes an amazing stave church and a functioning farm, which our children loved. The staff were particularly engaging. Given it's almost entirely outside, pick a better day than we did 🌧️

Not gonna lie, my husband grew up listening to Mayhem, etc, so we came to see the stave church and it did not disappoint. But we were surprised at how much more there is to see here- it's huge! The Apothecary and medicinal garden were also particularly interesting. If you're an Outlander fan, it's not hard to imagine Claire Fraser stocking up in a store like this. It was very easy to get to on the #30 bus from the center of town.

A must-do, it was so interesting wandering around the area and seeing all the different buildings from hundreds of years ago! Plus we got to see a cultural dance too. There are helpful signage with explanations and history too.
