Besseggen, Vågå Municipality, Norway
Amazing place! Recommended! Just be sure that you are ready for some challenges in trail :) have a nice trip!
Lovely long trek.. wonderful views... be well prepared (14km from Memurubu and about 1000m accents totally)
Beautiful hike, but long and intense. Rewarding views
I started the hike after a 7 AM boat ride which I booked online (Gjende to Merurubu.) A mostly full boat. You're never alone on the hike - lots of people! The weather forecast wasn't the best but the rain cleared by mid-morning. If you've hiked before, you should be able to complete the walk. About 630 m ascent before a short descent and then the rest up to the ridge. When you get to the views of the two lakes half way up the scramble (up the ridge) take photos!! Once you're up on the ridge you don't see much. I almost missed my photo opp. Would recommend! But not during bad weather - if foggy I can imagine it would be very hard to see track markings.
Besseggen offers a 14km hike including some climbing (sometimes a bit tough) and amaaazing views. Every step you take you will want to stop and take photos! Bring lots of water :) A Must Do (but avoid if rainy). Recommend catching the ferry to Memurubu and starting the hike from there back to Gjendesheim since it’s less steep (unless you’re camping and want to sleep in Memurubu after the hike).
