About Nepal

Nepal in a nutshell

Nepal is a South Asian country that lies between India and China. It’s known around the world for being home to the highest mountain peak on the planet.

In 1846, the Rana dynasty began rule over Nepal and closed the country’s borders to the outside world. It wasn’t until 1951 after the Rana dynasty fell that Nepal would open its borders again.

Why is Nepal so popular to visit?

Tourism is a huge industry in Nepal, in large part due to Mount Everest, which is the highest peak in the world. Adventurers from around the world pay huge amounts of money to trek to the top. Of course, a more attainable option is to trek to the base camp, which is still a massive achievement. There are countless other hiking routes that attract tons of hikers each year. Hinduism and Buddhism are the two most practiced religions in the country and so there's an abundance of temples that attract curious and spiritual visitors. Some travel to the country to observe the magnificent one-horned rhino.

With plenty of training and preparation, a trek to Everest Base Camp is doabe, but it’ll cost you a pretty penny. Extreme climbers attempt to summit, but if you want to get a good taste of Everest, the multiple-day base camp trek is not a bad start. If you don’t want to break the bank (or your body) opt for a visit to Chitwan National Park where you can see one-horned rhinos, Bengal tigers and crocodiles. The Annapurna Circuit is another popular trekking route that passes by Tilicho Lake, a glacial lake with beautifully blue water. Kathmandu, the capital, is definitely worth exploring, especially given the quantity of gorgeous temples.

What is the best time of year to visit Iceland?

Nepal has a monsoon season which runs from June to September. It can be wet, cloudy and muddy, and overall very unpleasant, especially for those wishing to hike and experience the outdoors. October and November are generally the best months to climb Mount Everest and the various other hiking routes in the country. The springtime is also a pleasant time to visit, with the blossoming flowers and warm weather.
