On this 9-hour tour, enjoy two of the most beautiful and best-known islands off the Yucatan Coast: Isla Contoy and Isla Mujeres. Contoy is a protected natural reserve that provides shelter and nesting areas for maritime birds; you'll have a chance to snor
Start your day at Punta Sam in Cancun at 7am. Board a comfortable speedboat to
get to Isla Contoy in just 40 minutes (USD $10 roundtrip). Before reaching the
island, make a stop for an optional 40-minute snorkeling session at the tip of
the second largest reef in the world, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.
After snorkeling, disembark on Isla Contoy (USD $5 nature reserve fee). The
pier is next to one of the island's finest beaches, featuring a natural pool
with crystal-clear waters. Take a little time to walk around the small island
or visit the museum. See an internal lagoon where bird species nest, follow a
set of trails that leads to the other side of the island, and finally climb
the island's lookout tower, where you can appreciate magnificent views in all
directions.
At mid-day, dig in to a delicious lunch of "Tikin Xic" fish (a traditional
jackfish recipe from Yucatan), along with grilled chicken, guacamole, salad,
bread, and seasonal fruits. Water and sodas are available on the boat at all
times, and after snorkeling, so is beer. After lunch, enjoy 90 minutes of free
time on the beach. Work on your tan, take a dip, or play with the friendly
mantas.
Depart from the pier toward Isla Mujeres, the "Island of Women," so named by
the Spanish because of the many goddess images they found here upon arriving
in the 16th century. Stroll the charming streets of this picturesque island,
pick up a few souvenirs, and then board the boat back to Cancun, arriving back
at Punta Sam around 4pm.
Bottled water, soft drinks, lunch, and snorkel equipment are all included.
