This place is full of history and philosophy. Its a really great landmark of japan that make you really feel what japan feels like. Its the emperor palace with a stunning feel of garden. Really full of impressive object to see. It only open few days a year so you must do research before visiting. Very nice and well reserved. Very recommend to see if you are in japan.

You have to either get tickets online prior to your visit or go there and show up early to line up to get the 180 or so tickets they give out the day of. We lined up for tickets and had no problem getting them on the same day. You have to bring ID (passport) and fill out a form to get on the tour. They bring you into a large room for about an hour (almost) wait before the tour starts. The tour itself is about 1hr 15min. You have to stay on the tour and cannot wander off. You don't actually walk too far on the tour. Interesting tour. The palace is a rebuild after 'the great fire' and isn't itself as impressive on the exterior as many of the temples are in Japan. However, although you cannot enter the palace itself, likely the interior is stunning. They walk you over to a beautiful old bridge. After the tour, (conducted in many languages and they divide people by language into smaller tour groups) you are free to visit the palace gardens.

During my visit, tours and visits inside were closed due to a ceremony. The outside is still pretty cool to visit! You can walk around and view the walls and palaces from the outside. You get to experience and see the walls that protect the palace. Overall is a pretty cool place to sight see!

Excellent place to run when in Tokyo. Extremely popular for runners. Exactly a 5K. Did they plan it for running when they constructed it? 😀 Rare place in middle of Tokyo where you can run continuously without having to stop at traffic lights unless running at parks next to the river. There is a lot of pedestrians during daytime hours. It is a good 5K because it has some uphill that gives the 5K a little extra edge.

Unfortunately Palace was closed for Public holiday, but it looked huge and impressive from the exterior walls. The gardens were lovely, well maintained, and trees just starting to turn with their autumn leaves. Very tranquil and the tea house within the grounds was gorgeous!
