A must while visiting Kyoto. There are over 10,000 red arches that form a beautiful pathway to the top of this shrine. Perhaps the mos beautiful part is where the pathway splits into two. The admission is free, but if you wanna avoid the crows, you can go as early as 6 am. Once you visit the shrine, don't miss the chance to go to the top and enjoy the nature and view. Highly recommend.

Crowded but quite unique ! This amount of Tori is not that common in Japan. Enjoy the hike (i would recommend to hike all the way to top and do the loop since it’s a nice one) and get away from the crowd (most people stock to the first buildings). You’ll still meets lot of people but way less 😉 The view at the top is nice too (see picture), good sunset spot.

The tori gates attract a lot of tourists. Going further up there are less people, although it's still busy depending on when you go. That being said, it's a pretty amazing sight to behold, and the view from halfway up is breathtaking. It's not necessary to hike to the very top to get a great view, although it will be a great workout. There are lots of drink and snack places along the way. If you want to sit in a restaurant with a view be prepared to order a main dish or be shunted into an inside room or denied a seat altogether ;)

Excellent outdoor activity for anyone who likes nature or hiking. The entire looped climb is about 30-40 minutes, but it will be extremely crowded especially near the bottom, so it might take a bit longer. There are food and souvenir stands at every checkpoint, and some have misting stations for the heat, but tourists should remember that the shrines might hold legitimate meaning for some families, so they should try to be quiet and respectful when someone is praying.

It was amazing. The lower part of the walk is very busy. However! Keep walking and you'll eventually get away from the crowds. When you get to the spot where you can look over Kyoto just keep walking as there will be very few people there and it's a lot quieter!
