Nice Museum to go to when in Bologna. Students of specific degree programmes don’t have to pay entry, the reduced price for people under 25 is 2 Euros. So really affordable for Erasmus students looking to explore more of Italian culture. The staff was friendly and the paintings were nice to look at.

If you are a lover of the arts, definitely visit the National Art Gallery of Bologna! Not at all crowded, plenty of spaces and a variety of exhibits. Loved it - need about 1-2 hrs to wander all of the gallery.

If you must find a definition for this art museum, "hidden gem" would be the best. Not very much known to the ordinary tourist, and somehow suffering the competition with other famous art gallery as gli Uffizi in Florence or Brera in Milan, the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna housed a rich and very interesting collection of art. The paintings start from middle ages with gothic-driven art (XIII century), pass through the Renaissance, with some jaw dropping masterpieces of Il Francia, Guido Reni, Carracci, Raffaello and other great bolognese artists, finally reaching the XVIII century. One can really experience the evolution of painting through time, also thanks to the well organized visit path. A deserved shout-out to the newly reorganized Renaissance sector, extremely well presented and bearing some wonderful masterpieces from this period (some of them loaned from other museum). With the ticket (8€) is comprised the visit of another historical palace in Bologna. You can visit it in the same day or within the next 3 months!
