Piazza di Santa Croce, 16, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy
This is a great church to visit not because of the beautiful cathedral. The church is very typical in Italy. What make this church famous is the most famous people in Florence bury here. It is know as temple glory with many glorious people in one place. The know people in the world who are bury there including great artist Michelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci
Santa Croce is so stunning from the square. It's unique 5 point star on the facade is breathtaking. Definitely a stop on any itinerary. One of the points of interest for is that there are famous Italians buried here (kind of like Westminister Abbey) so be sure to see if someone you admire is laid to rest here. Also before entering check to see if any exhibits are closed as was the case during our visit.
One of the grandest building I have ever seen, you really have to see this in person to appreciate it! Obviously very tourist heavy but you spend most of your time looking up so is not ruined by the amount of people
This is a remarkable basilica, with frescoes by Giotto and is the burial place of many notable people, including Michelangelo. The floor of the basilica has so many tomb markers, some so ancient and worn that the inscriptions are gone. It felt like walking in a cemetery. Such a sense of antiquity and belief in the afterlife.
Beautiful church and a nice and quiet square where you can sit down to have a drink or relax. It's not crowded at all so a real nice opportunity to get some rest after having walked the entire day. If you don't have a lot of time in Firenze, I would skip it though.
