Calle Lunga Santa Maria Formosa, 5176b, 30122 Venezia VE, Italy
Amazing and interesting, very cool place, must visit while in Venice! Piles of books reach the ceiling, cats are everywhere and there's a bathtub in the middle of a room. It gets a little stranger the more you explore. One room has a real gondola in it. Another gondola is outside on a canal, you have an opportunity to make a unique photo in gondola, the photo opportunities are rare and absolutely INCREDIBLE for the book lovers.
Despite the people just coming to gawp, this is a genuine bookshop with many hidden gems. It is famous, amongst other things for a staircase made out of redundant encyclopedias and for its resident fraternity (admittedly some may belong to a sorority) of felines. Good spot for browsing as well as buying unusual postcards and souvenirs. Too many people just come to take photos of the apparent clutter and unusual methods of displaying the books. The name :Acqua Alta" means "high water " as the shop suffers from floods and is a high water spot. As an added bonus, in the shop on the corner by the bookshop is a craftsman whom you can watch making leather Venetian masks. He is highly skilled.
This bookstore is extremely interesting. They keep their books is gondolas in some spots due to the frequent flooding (I'm guessing that's what draws people in) but it's more that that. It seems small but there are so many books in this shop! It was enough to just walk through and read the titles - the atmosphere is very peaceful. Definitely a must see for any book lover on your trip to Venice.
Such a nice place! Make sure to head there if you're in Venice even just for one day! The bookshop lady was so nice and its really cool to go inside and watch the cata sleep and you might even be lucky to pet them! Just please be respectful while on the line waiting to take a photo on the more aesthetic places as some people dont seem to understand the concept of a line
Amazing bookshop. One of the most fabulous places we visited in Venice. Their garden out the back is worth a visit.
