It's not so much the size or the beauty of the cave that one should come here for, but rather the whole experience. If you like adventures and exploring natural structures in its original form, this is the thing for you. Firstly, you will wear wellington boots and safety harness, and be lowered down to the cave by local staff who took care of our safety. That is quite an exhilarating experience itself. Next, you will enter the cave in pitch darkness as there are no lights installed inside - a torchlight or phone torch will come in handy. Expect some exercise for the legs as you will wade through the thick and sticky mud. Be careful as it can be rather slippery. Finally, the finale and highlight of the experience is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel - both literally and figuratively. The shaft of light ray shining into the cave really looks, as they say, heavenly. You will feel that way especially after the tiring and humid walk through the cave. Then, you will walk back to where you were hoisted down and be pulled back up by 20 to 30 men, some I must say are in their late teens or 20s. Much respect to them for elevating us tourists up back up safely. Tip: Bring old socks and disposable shower caps to wear. Also bring waterproof handphone covers if possible.

I felt like I should be holding my breath. The view around me was amazing. The cave was huge. The roof of Goa Jomblang cave was 50 meters or more above our heads. Sunshine was flooding in through the hole in the roof of the cave. My friend posed on a rock, a dark silhouette against the light. Goa Jomblang is one of the natural highlights of Yogyakarta. The caves are located in Semanu, Gunung Kidul Regency. It’s a 90-minute drive from the center of Yogyakarta and the perfect day trip from the city. Let me tell you a bit more about the cave and exactly what you can expect if you visit Goa Jomblang yourself.

Good spot with effort.. helmet is smells bad because everyone who used it definitely sweating. Wear shower cap, use antiseptic spray or something to reduce the smells. Some of the boots is not in good condition, pick carefully.

The cave itself is fantastic. Be prepared to trek through mud to reach the good stuff. Fun descent into the cave on a rope. Unfortunately the group is too big, so it becomes a good but of waiting if you're near the end of the pack, as sometimes there are families it other people who take a longer time.

Great experience! Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and wear socks! They provide wellington boots for you to wear as you'll be walking through mud. The abseil down into the sink hole was cool and very safe, they do all the lowering down for you. Take a torch or be prepared to use the flash on your mobile phone because they did not provide a torch and lighting along the path into the cave is minimal. Lunch is included. Price was 500k IDR.
