We will ride into one of the oldest lava fields in Iceland, Hallmundarhraun.
The lava flowed from the north-western rim of Langjökull glacier, and entered
Hvítá river. This is the largest lava field of Borgarfjörður district, being
about 52 km long and 7 km wide where it is widest. Riding time: ca. 4 hours.
Day 4: Reykholt, Hraunfossar and Farewell
Today we take a round trip from the farm Sturlu-Reykir. The ride today will be
focused on the old Icelandic Sagas, as we ride to Reykholt. Reykholt is most
famous for being the home of Iceland's best-known author and statesman Snorri
Sturluson (1179 – 1241). An ancient geothermally-heated pool, Snorralaug, is
named after him. It is one of the few things preserved whole from Iceland´s
medieval period. A museum tells us about the fascinating world of the Sagas
and Snorri´s life!
Riding time: ca. 3-4 hours.
