Embark on a bird watching excursion on one of Icelandic haven of birds. On this tour, you will be exposed to different species of birds that flock this beautiful Island of Grimsey. Besides just watching birds, you will witness a local tradition of bird's egg hunting upon which you will be granted an egg as a gift.
Grimsey is a unique island when it comes to sea birds. The island is an oasis in the north Atlantic ocean and its cliffs are a special haven for sea birds such as the Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis), Black Guillemot (Cepphus grylle), Black-legged Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla), Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica), Razorbill (Alca torda) and Murre.
Grimsey is a great place for birding since nearly all of the main wader, moorland, and seabirds that visit Iceland each year can be found in Grimsey during the summer.
The cliffs on the east side of the island are highest ranging from 60 to 100 meters. The inhabitants of the island have climbed and harvested eggs down those steep dangerous cliffs for centuries, although highly reduced in recent decades.
We want you to experience this remarkable tradition, where a local will climb down the cliffs (we can not offer you a chance to climb down yourself, sorry, only do-able for specially trained locals with appropriate safety equipment). Each tour will be limited to only 10 persons and each person will receive a seabird egg. As you will experience first hand, the birds won't like your plans.. at all!
