On this special day tour, you will visit Seltun geothermal area and the Reykjanes Peninsula, with an optional relaxing stop at the Blue Lagoon. You will learn about Iceland's volcanoes and hot springs. The breath-taking landscapes and picturesque views are a complete delight for the photographer.
Steamy and colorful geothermal areas, moss covered lava fields, caves,
craters, cliffs, and the spectacular Blue Lagoon, Reykjanes has it all.
Reykjanes peninsula is one of the most fascinating areas in Iceland and just a
30 minute drive from Reykjavik.
This tour is perfect for geology and nature lovers, but it is also good to mention that the uniqueness of Reykjanes has attracted movie directors from all over the world in the past few years.
We will pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavik in the morning and we will be heading South-West to our first stop, Seltún. The geothermal area of Seltún enchants with the many vivid colors that the minerals give to the rocks and with its mud pools and springs with water reaching temperatures of 80-90 degrees Celsius.
Next, we will be heading to Gunnuhver - another beautiful hot springs
area close to the fascinating Reykjanesviti - the oldest lighthouse in
Iceland. Gunnuhver gets its name after Gunna - a female ghost that used to
haunt a nearby village over 400 years ago. She was disturbing the inhabitants
until a priest set a trap for her and she fell into the spring.
The contrast between the ocean and the black lava close to Reykjanesviti
lighthouse creates a magical landscape, perfect for great photos.
Next stop will be Lake Kleifarvatn (the largest lake on the peninsula), where an episode of "Black Mirror" was filmed. You will then have the chance to take a short hike to the top of the Krísuvíkurbjarg cliffs (the highest bird cliff on the peninsula from dark basalt rocks). Other highlights of the tour are Selatangar , which was a big fishing settlement in the late 19th century, and Grindavik , where you can try some local food and ice-cream.
After all the sightseeing, we will stop at the Blue Lagoon , one of Iceland’s most famous attractions. Here you will have time to walk around and take pictures or enjoy a coffee in the cafe overlooking the blue pool. If you wish, you can take a relaxing bath in the warm lagoon while enjoying a drink or trying the nourishing silica mask (Entrance tickets are not included in the price of the tour and must be purchased in advance).
There will be many coffee and toilet breaks during this private tour, so you
can enjoy Iceland in comfort.
If you are taking this tour in the winter (September-March) we will try to
hunt for the Northern Lights before heading back to Reykjavik (weather
permitting).
