Nature Awakes With Farmers - Spring Local Living

This 3 days tour in Borgarfjörður East Iceland will take you to the small village of Bakkagerði where you stay for 2 nights. This local living tour could be your next dream travel experience. Each day is based on activities we choose in this charming and unique destination with their local people and wilderness surroundings. Nature is your next door neighbor, and the regional cooking, hikes and our local contacts will help you get the most from your stay. This includes a visit to local homes for chat and coffee. It is easy to visit the puffins and look for more places to fill your camera with memories.

Day 1 : Village tour
You arrive on the morning flight from Reykjavík domestic airport to Egilsstaðir (Not Included). You will be picked up by locals and transfer you to Borgarfjörður eystri with stops along the way. Once in Borgarfjöður, you reach your local Country Hotel Álfheimar (Home of the Elves) You will take a village tour with a local guide and have lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the Brekkubæ farm and learn a little about the lambing season and what is happening over the next days. Later in the day, we have a village walk and visit the Álfaborg area where we will find the capital of the Elves. After you have a leisurely afternoon and dinner at Álfheimar Restaurant.

Day 2 : Hike to elves mountain and the puffin colony
Today you will check for the local catch by the fishermen or the fish factory after an excellent breakfast at the hotel. There is a 3-5 hours hike in the Elves mountain in the afternoon. You will revisit the farm, and when we are ready, we think about cooking together with the locals and do some great dishes from the local fish or lamb. After a fresh fish dinner, we will visit the puffin area in Hafnarhólmi to get the evening light before a good nights sleep.

Day 3 : Relaxing day in the country side
Spend the day relaxing, hiking and taking in the view and atmosphere in the peaceful little town of Bakkagerði. Visit the small local SPA at the seaside for your last memories before your private transfer to Egilsstaðir Airport. Fly back to Reykjavík with the evening flight with a lot of memories about local people, nature and your experience.
