Fjarðárgljúfur Canyon is in the southeast region of Iceland, close to the town Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Try saying the canyon’s name fast few times in a row, it can even be tricky for some of the locals! The first scene of the video is shot in Fjarðárgljúfur, where we see Bieber walking along a tiny ridge with a spectacular view of the canyon in front of him. To read more about this magical place, check out this article by Nína.

Seljalandsfoss is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is located in the southern region of Iceland around 12 mi (20 km) away from a little town called Hvolsvöllur. It is not only beautiful to look at, but also special because you are able to walk behind it, like Justin Bieber does in his video.

It can be seen from a few angles in the second scene in the video.

Fjaðrá

Fjaðrá is the river that flows through the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon mentioned above, it is a river that originates from a mountain close by called Geirlandshraun. Bieber floats down the river in one scene wearing nothing but his underwear, which must have been really cold. The rivers in Iceland are at least not known to be warm and nice.

Dyrhólaey

Dyrhólaey is close to a little village called Vík, which is the southernmost village in Iceland. The name literally means “the hill-island with the door-hole” which seems to fit quite well. The view from Dyrhólaey is amazing, to the east you see the black lava columns of Reynisdrangar, to the north the big glacier, Mýrdalsjökull and to the west you see a whole coastline for as long as your eyes can reach. Bieber can be seen watching over the coastline and standing on the edge of Dyrhólaey around half-way through the video.

Skógafoss Waterfall

Skógafoss is another famous waterfall in Iceland located in the southern region. It is 50 ft (15 meters) wide and has a 200 ft (60 meter) drop which makes it quite impressive to look at. According to a legend, Þrasi Þórólfsson, the first Viking settler in the area, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall.

Bieber can both be seen sitting on top of the hill watching over the waterfall and also walking in the black gravel in front of the waterfall. Skógafoss was also featured in the movies Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

There are many tours who stop by the magnificent Skógafoss, for example Beautiful South Coast Bus Tour and Jewels of the South - Minibus Day Tour.

In November 1973 a US Navy airplane crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur and by some miracle all the passengers survived. The plane wreck on Sólheimasandur Beach is one of the most famous sites to visit in Iceland.  It is located between Skógafoss and Dyrhólaey, both mentioned above. There is a parking lot and from there to the wreck is about 4 km walk.

Bieber can be seen skateboarding on top of the plane wreck in the video.

ATV at the black sand beach is a fun way to explore the area around the plane wreck.

Jökulsárlón and the Diamond Beach

Jökulsárlón is in the east region of Iceland, located on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. The icebergs separate from Breiðamerkurjökull, which is an offshoot from Vatnajökull glacier. Breiðamerkurjökull is retreating fast every year and in return the lagoon is getting bigger. The Diamond beach is a black sand beach right next to Jökulsárlón where icebergs from the lagoon drift ashore and create the most magnificent sight one can imagine.

Bieber can be seen standing on the Diamond beach and then bathing in the freezing lagoon. Please note that bathing in the lagoon can be dangerous and is not advised. Jökulsárlón has been the setting for a few Hollywood movies like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Batman Begins, Die Another Day and more.

There are number of ways to visit Jökulsárlón, for example on a boat like in Amphibian Bout TourZodiac tour or as a part of a longer tour around the area Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon 2 day tour.

Self-drive instructions

All of the places mentioned above are easily accessible by the Ring Road and are possible to visit almost all year around.

If you are considering visiting these places on your own here are some notes:

  • The weather can change in a minute, be careful if the weather is bad or the forecast is really bad, especially around Vik (plane wreck and Dyrhólaey) locals often need to rescue tourists in bad weather.
  • Do not drive offroad anywhere and please don’t throw rubbish in the nature.
  • Bieber can be seen rolling on moss in the video. Please don’t do that and be really careful when walking on moss. It is really delicate and can take hundreds of years to recover.
