My wife and I went to Iceland for our honeymoon. After a terrible flight due to cancellations and rerouting, we finally made it to Iceland. We were very tired because of the terrible flights and just wanted to get a moment to relax. After picking up our rental car, we drove straight to the Blue Lagoon Retreat Hotel. When we first walked into the door, we were greeted by the staff and asked if we wanted to sit, relax, and have complimentary champagne while they were doing their finishing touches on our room. We almost cried because we were so happy to finally get good service. The common area spaces are breathtaking. Such good interior design and such a welcoming staff makes your entrance a breath of fresh air. We stayed 2 nights in a Lava View Junior Suite, and it was phenomenal. The rooms are very minimalist and calming, but are packed full of very high-class features and high-tech additions. The shower was my favorite feature :) Included with your room is a complimentary mini bar with beer, sodas, and wine, as well as an espresso machine. After getting situated in our room, we went to the Retreat Lagoon. Having a private lagoon is truly an amazing experience. During our stay we also checked out the regular blue lagoon, which was also great, however, after experiencing the retreat lagoon, all in all with the better staff and amenities, we would have to say the retreat spa and lagoon is much much better. I could go on for hours about how much we enjoyed our stay. The food was delicious, the design was fantastic, the staff was world class, and the spa along with the blue lagoon ritual and massage services was truly a perfect experience. It was a great start to our trip and we cannot wait to hopefully one day visit again.

Staff were warm and accommodating at every turn. Room was great; gorgeous view, comfy bed, the works. The private access to a separate lagoon with fewer people is the best way to live. Super easy to go between water and your room... Great stuff!

Stunning property and as everyone else has said, incredible facilities. Both the indoor and outdoor spa areas meet expectations for a 5-star resort. The service is a bit uneven, though, and it's clear they are still figuring things out. All the staff were very courteous, warm, and enthusiastic, but details were missed like providing enough explanation of the facilities and processes. The restaurant was excellent.

While we were there, we found out that The Retreat was named the top resort in Europe! I believe it because our experience there was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we checked in and were offered champagne, to all the tech in the suite, and the ease in which the staff moves about, orchestrating everything effortlessly...this was definitely the best experience at a hotel I've had in my life. It blew Ritz Paris out of the water, to be perfectly honest. When our host, Thor (That's really his name, and it's pronounced "poor") took us to our room, he gave us a printed, personalized itinerary for our stay. Afternoon tea from 3-4pm, dinner reservation for the chef's table at Moss, the on-site restaurant that's been recommended for a Michelin star, which would be the first in Iceland, breakfast the next morning in the lobby the next morning. We spent the rest of the afternoon in the spa (no electronics allowed in the spa, whether it's indoors or outdoors in the private lagoon), did The Ritual treatment (which I don't want to spoil for anyone), and then headed over to the underground wine cellar for a tour with the sommelier before our 6:30 dinner (I totally recommend dining at Moss, but that's for a different review). Everything here is intentional and so well appointed. There are lockers for you to keep your phone safe and dry located outside of the spa, there is tap for drinking water in the lagoon because you should always stay hydrated, towels and robes everywhere. It was truly a resort experience of a lifetime. Last but not least, the staff is unbelievable warm and welcoming and they encourage you to walk around the hotel in your robe and slippers. Wow.

The Retreat is where we ended our wedding day and started our honeymoon. Linda was our designated host for the duration and she was absolutely delightful. When we arrived we were escorted to our room then taken to the Moss restaurant for our wedding dinner where we had an incredible coursed menu. When we returned to our room my wife's wedding bouquet was beautifully arranged in a vase along with some fruits, chocolate, champagne, and a sweet congratulations note. Our three day stay was nothing short of incredible. The amenities and rooms are the best we have ever seen. We stayed in the Lagoon Moss Suite and we were kindly upgraded to stay in the same suite for a third evening. The service everywhere within the hotel was incredible. During our stay we were able to go on an ATV tour where we were picked up and dropped off at the hotel. That was very convenient. There are many other tours that are offered with pick up and drop off from the hotel. We dined at Moss again for our last night at the hotel and they even arranged for changes to the coursed meal so that we got to try some other things, equally as delicious as the first night and very innovative. Linda arranged for transportation to the airport and the driver and vehicle was very nice. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or just looking to relax at one of the most luxurious hotels among nature, The Retreat should be your first choice. Thank you so much to Linda and everyone at The Retreat for an absolutely perfect honeymoon!!! We hope to come back very soon!
