Vattarnesvegur, Fáskrúðsfjörður, Iceland
Lovely black sand beach, with basaltic columns and grottos, and lots of birds such as puffins. The vies on this beach is mysterious and beautiful and you can walk all along, but pay attention to the dangerous waves that can drown you even if you are not in the water, so do not get to close to the shore
Great museum - the history of the french sailors in Faskruđsfjöđur
From outside a small place but inside a huge exhibition. It is a very detailed and interesting museum, made with a lot of 'love'. The guide took all his time to answer every question and to explain every detail. I was very impressed.
A great museum and learning experience! We were impressed with the quality of the exhibits and interactive elements in a small town, and surprised by the history. Why are those street signs in Icelandic and French? Come find out. Courteous and kind people there also.
This museum is located in two stately buildings, the Doctor's House and the French Hospital as they are called, built by the French fishermen around 1900. However, the main attraction of the exhibition is situated in a tunnel that connects the two buildings. The entrance to the museum is from the hotel reception area in the Doctor's House. In the museum, the interesting history and legacy of the French sailors in Iceland is shown by means of the latest multimedia technology.
