Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Iceland
Completely frozen in December. I had it all to myself. There is a good trail/path up the to top of the mountain. There were some interesting sights along the way! There are also some very friendly Icelandic horses nearby the waterfall.
The fall was dried when we arrived there in August this year. But we hiked up the mountain. There is a beautiful lake on the top of the mountain. We took the trail just next to the falls where there are couple of benches. There are no signs near the falls. But we asked at the restaurant next to the falls. They were happy to help us find the trail. The trail is narrow and muddy with the bushes. I wouldn't recommend it in the dark or during rain. It was about 20 minutes hike. But the view from the top is really good. The lake is beautiful. It is not very popular among tourists so it's nice to be alone there and enjoy the view.
Yet another beautiful Icelandic waterfall. Make sure to drive to the end of the road and hike to the other waterfall and iconic rock where the nuns were buried.
If you are into fosses and want to avoid crowds, this is a nice one. You will probably be on your own when you visit. We arrived there when it was a bit dark so could not explore the hiking routes (3km to 5km if I remember well). The one going up to the top of the waterfall looked interesting.
Beautiful place to hike and enjoy nature. It is not a big fall but is really peaceful without tons of tourists.
