A cool tourist attraction to visit if you're in the mood for something different. It's about a 45 minute walk to the plane from the main road so be sure to wear comfy shoes.

Interesting piece of history to see off the ring road. There is a large parking lot and it’s very easy to find the route down to the beach. The plane crash is not visible from the parking lot and is deceivingly far (about an hour walk each way) but flat the whole way. Very popular spot!

Cool experience. Be aware you have to walk for almost 1 hour from the parking to the airplane wreck! And that's one way (so 2 hours in total) and it can be a very windy place because it's an open space. After 10:00 AM a shuttle is operating and can bring you for approx. 14 EUR. It's a shame people used graffiti on the plane wreck. But still impressive to see on the black sand!

I was really excited to visit this plane and take pictures, and as someone with a physical disability I was hoping the shuttle would work out. You have to stay at the site for 45 minutes for a return shuttle, which is too long for me to stand (there is no seating). Unfortunately we didn't realize this until we were on the shuttle, so we paid $40 to sit on an incredibly bumpy shuttle for 30 mins without being able to see the plane. I wish we had examined the schedule more carefully before embarking. This is the only inaccessible site I've been to in Iceland and wish I'd had more realistic expectations of the physical demands of visiting this site.

Very long and windy hike as many have said, but well worth it! The plane is very cool and if you go early enough as we did you'll only have a few others around you to share taking photos in and around the plane. Around that time are usually respectful campervanners or photographers, no hoards or tour bus crowds. We went just after sunrise and only maybe 6 others were there. The shuttle doesn't run that early so you must hike, and it's too expensive anyways. I love old wrecks like this so for me it was a must see for our trip and it does not disappoint. ;)
