October is a month often overlooked when visiting Iceland but many find it to be an excellent time. The northern lights often start showing up in October and the colorful daylight brightness is spectacular.

In October, you’ll be off the main summer tourist season so many of the most popular points of interest such as the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon and Thingvellir National Park are less crowded. The weather can be unpredicible but you’ll see the real Iceland, probably some snow, rain, wind and sun. You’ll also often find good deals on accommodation, car rental and tours this time of year.
