This synagogue is unique in size, design, and history. It is the largest synagogue in Europe, it is designed like a church (with an organ), it is lavish, and it reflects the history of the affluent Jewish community of Budapest. Be sure to book a guide, and one who knows Jewish culture and history. There is a lot to learn about this place and it's importance in Hungary. The cemetery and monuments on the side and rear offer interesting insights into Jewish life in Budapest over the centuries.

Great place to view an important synagogue for Hungarian and Jewish history, with free guided tours in various languages every half an hour. With a memorial garden, and very well laid out Jewish History museum. Must have learned about 50 new things I didn't know about Jewish culture!

Very beautiful place! Ladies, take care what you're wearing because they have strict rules about clothing! The English speaking guide did a good job but I would have liked some more information about the synagogue itself while now it focussed mostly on its role during the Holocaust.

Check if it is a Jewish holiday before you visit cos I really wanted to see inside but couldn’t. Such a pity! However, the architecture outside is gorgeous!

For those who visit for religious reasons, yes, I wouldn't think twice, it's a religious place, one of a kind, which bares a long history, it's the second largest synagogue in the world and 1st in europe. You will also have access to it's beautiful museum full of tradition and explanatory text next to each object, which brings you closer to Judaism, the tradition and religion...which is the only reason you should visit, that is if you are not there to pray. So why am I giving it a 4 star? Reason is that I can't justify the almost 20 euro ticket for a quick look inside the synagogue, since you need to pay extra for the guide which you are gonna need, to tell you a bit more about it's history or how everything came to be. Spend your money elsewhere if you re only sightseeing, or take a look at the photos online.
